Carly’s portfolio website is currently under construction, but her blog link is here
I LOVE INSPIRATION BOARDS. For me inspirations boards, bulletin boards, whatever you want to call them are the most endearing and intimate form of communication. You see what makes a person click, the small details that they find beautiful. Little treasures of imagination and memory. Here are two boards I have made, and then some others that we found and loved.
8 1/2, directed by Frederico Fellini. Such a beautiful display of cinematography, costume design, and a clever, comical, and insightful comment on film-making. Often film within a film narratives, get rather dry because the theme is presented in the beginning and the rest of the film rests on this “clever idea.” However, 8 1/2 in my opinion keeps refreshing the audience with its whimsy, comedy and self awareness. Such a delight to watch, a beautiful film.
The movie of the week goes too…(drum role)…. Bill Cunningham New York. Such a remarkable life, and a remarkable person. This documentary directed by Richard Press, follows Bill Cunningham, the well known street photographer, who has been documenting street fashion for over 30 years. From his humility to his sense of humor, Bill is an icon. Imbedded in what is often a cold, materialistic and shallow environment that is the New York social circuit and fashion industry, Bill is this quirky, loving, creative mind undaunted by the pettiness of social status. I honestly honestly think that everyone can take away a small glimpse into what builds a fulfilling and joyous life from this film.
I recently discovered the artist Adrienne Slane. Slane combines the ideas of the beauty and interconnectivity of nature along with religious symbolism as well. She uses vintage images found in a number of places to create intricate colorful collages. Love everything about it.
Sufjan Stevens, a personal favorite of mine, has recently come out with a new Christmas album! It has a diverse array of tracks to enjoy at any moment during this holiday season. Also, be sure to check out his rendition of Come Thou Fount on his 2006 Christmas album, its my favorite (for any time of the year)!
